Creative Scotland Dialogue Event

Apologies for this late posting as this event was on 5th October in the lovely Perth Royal Concert Hall.  It was the second of four events bringing together creative practitioners and policy people with Mike Russell MSP, Minister for Culture, Richard Holloway, Chair of the joint Scottish Screen/SAC Board and Ewan Brown, Chair of Creative Scotland 2009 Ltd. The audience of about 250 heard short speeches from each, and an open discussion followed on themes of partnership, access and participation and international value and benefits, ably chaired by Ruth Wishart.

The main discussion themes were summarised by the Minister as sector specific, concerns about funding patterns, quality of relationships and the need for engagement from all in sector.

To support this engagement, the event also marked the launch of the Perspectives on-line discussion forum, which aims to gather views on the four themes of the creative practitioner, accessibility, participation and international activity. Our thoughts are stimulated by a ‘provocateur’ for each topic – this is currently Alice Taylor, Commissioning Editor, Education, Channel 4 Television, on the theme of accessibility which is attracting a lot of comment. So do have a look and follow or divert the discussion!

Two further events will happen – Dumfries in January and Glasgow in April, no exact dates yet but watch this space.
