Museum forums are a crucial driver of partnership and collaborative working within the sector, and many museums and galleries across Scotland find them a helpful way of staying connected with their local colleagues, sharing knowledge, and accessing new opportunities. Ten geographic forums currently exist, from North Ayrshire (one of Scotland’s oldest forums) to Aberdeen City and Shire (established at the end of 2014). MGS is interested in supporting museums in areas that do not have existing forums; to further this, an exploratory meeting will be held in Dumfries on Tuesday, 12 January from 10:30 am.
This informal meeting is open to all interested parties, and is not restricted to museums; many forums also include heritage sites, tourism attractions, and arts organisations. The time will be used to explore what a forum could look like for Dumfries & Galloway, and to establish some next steps for supporting this work in the area. The meeting will be held at:
Gracefield Arts Centre, 28 Edinburgh Road, Dumfries, DG1 1JQ
We will begin at 10:30, and aim to conclude before 1 pm. If you have any questions, or would like to get more involved, please get in touch with Devon McHugh, Relationships & Partnerships Development Manager: firstname.lastname@example.org
