Feeling a bit let down by the weather? Why not join us and the great team at Fruitmarket Gallery for a #DrinkingAboutMuseums guaranteed to lift your spirits. Another Minimalism: Art After California Light and Space brings together the work of two pioneers of West Coast minimalism with a range of contemporary artists, showcasing groundbreaking work from, and inspired by, the 1960s and 70s.
We will arrive from 4:30 pm on Thursday, 3 December. Don’t worry if you are running late, or are coming straight from work: the event is informal, and you are welcome to drop in whenever you can. If you do want to catch the short introduction to the exhibition from Fruitmarket staff, this will be at 5 pm. Luckily, we don’t have to go far for our refreshment: we will head along to the Devil’s Advocate when the Gallery closes at 6pm.
Exploring light, colour, and reflection, the works in the exhibition ‘explore the perceptual and psychological aspects of seeing in optically inventive forms, structures, spaces, images and narratives,’ examining visual perception through a range of media, including coloured light gels, mist, tinted glass, resins and highly-coloured metals. The Fruitmarket has some really great events and resources that you can explore before or after your visit, including online lectures. And don’t forget about their shop, which is a great resource for holiday gifts!
Whether you are a regular visitor at the Fruitmarket or are just dipping your toe into the world of contemporary art for the first time, this is a great opportunity to meet colleagues and peers to chat art, gallery spaces, and creative expression past, present, and future. All are welcome, and no previous knowledge is required: please spread the word!
