It’s been some time since we had a proper #DrinkingAboutMuseums event in Scotland which is why we’re really excited about this one taking place in February in Dundee. If you aren’t familiar with the format, Drinking About Museums gathers together like minded individuals from the Museums and Galleries sector for a social evening where we can drink and chat about museums. Sometimes there is a behind the scenes tour of a particular institute but the heart of the event is the chance to mingle and socialise with colleagues.
We’re joined together with our friends at Dig It 2015, Scottish Museums Federation and The McManus to bring you Drinking About Museums on Thursday 5th February at 4pm at The McManus in Dundee with an informal tour of Classical Art: Legacy of the Ancients, the new exhibition staged to coincide with Roman Empire: Power & People, the British Museum exhibition which will be hosted at The McManus from 24th Jan to 10th May. Roman Empire: Power & People explores the story of one of the most powerful empires the world has ever seen. Highlights include sculpture from the villas of the Emperors Tiberius and Hadrian, coins from the famous Hoxne treasure, beautiful jewellery and even near-perfectly preserved children’s clothing from Roman Egypt. The lecture is free to attend but you do need to book through EventBrite to secure your place.
Afterwards we’ll be heading to BrewDog Dundee at 5pm who will be running the Scottish Tap Takeover that week, featuring special beers from favourite breweries from across Scotland, as well as launching a new beer brewed in collaboration with Eden Brewery, St. Andrews.
Tickets for the pop up event at the McManus are available through EventBrite however you don’t need to pre book to join us for drinks at Brewdog. Looking forward to seeing you all there on the 5th of Feb.
