Museums, galleries and heritage sites across Scotland are gearing up to invite children and young people to take over their functions for one day in November. On Thursday 28 November young people will take charge of Scotland’s museums operations including performing in roles such as a director signing staff annual leave, curator and education officers mounting exhibition displays, and visitors and guide tours officers and social media officers running the museums twitter feeds.
The aim of Takeover Day is to support, encourage and help develop the participation of children and young people in Scotland’s museums through a nation-wide event. It is an opportunity for young people to be inspired, creative and gain memorable experience and insight into the diverse roles and functions within museums. Thirty museums across Scotland are taking part in this exciting event providing a wide range of exciting projects that put young people at the heart of museum work. You can find about which museums are taking part by exploring this interactive picture map:
We are also delighted that Culture24 have listed all public facing events in Scotland thereby raising the profile of museums. You can find out which events are open to the public via the Culture 24 website.
MGS is working closely with Kids in Museums encouraging and supporting museums as they plan and deliver their projects and we wish all the museums taking part a very happy Takeover Day 2013!
