The MGS Training Programme is now out and has a wide range of courses on offer. The forthcoming courses running between now and Christmas are An Introduction to Oral History , 27th October Edinburgh, A Way with Words – writing effectively for your visitors, 23rd November, Edinburgh and Documentation Essentials, 7th December, Stirling. We have made a few changes to the training provision after the review of training carried out earlier in the year. Many of you expressed the desire for us to continue with the more basic courses but to also think about how we can provide for those needing a bit more.
New for this Training Programme is a series of half day Hints and Tips Workshops which will be held in Edinburgh in 2011. These workshops will be looking at MGS Grants, MGS Website and an Introduction to Marketing and will provide an opportunity for members to have an overview of these themes based on our guidance and practice. The great news is that these workshops are FREE of charge. We have decided on these 3 themes for the workshops but are very eager to hear from you if you would like to see these workshops cover any other areas.
A further development with training provision is that we are supporting 2 projects through small grants for member museums to run in-house training programmes, this means that the majority of staff can attend the training and the range of courses and learning suit the needs of the museum and to make it even more appealing for grants, neighbouring museums have been offered spaces on the range of courses available – it’s a win win!
