Coal Conversations: The Oral History of Mining in Scotland

The Scottish Coal Collections group are holding their annual conference at Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life, on Friday 1st October 2010. With speakers including Professor Arthur McIvor (University of Strathclyde), John Holt (former project manager, Shale Oil Museum, Livingston), Johnny Templeton (Mining Historian and creator of Miners’ Voices website) and Ian MacDougall (Research Worker for the Scottish Working People’s History Trust), it promises to be an interesting and informative day. Time will be set aside in the afternoon for discussion around how the group might take forward an oral history project of their own, followed by an opportunity for a tour of the Summerlee site.

There is still time to book and we would love to see as many of you there as possible. The event will start at 10am and finish with tea and biscuits at 3.15pm and lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day. If you would like any further information about any of the speakers or the programme for the day; or to book your place at the conference, please contact me via our website or by comment or email Ellie Swinbank: assistant.curator@scottishminingmuseum.co.uk (T: 0131 663 7519)
