Some colleagues in the past have described my thinking as being ‘out there’ and it now seems that there is a conference for that!
Glasgow’s Open Museum is celebrating its 20th birthday with Out There: Contemporary Contexts for Museums, which is an international ideas exchange forum.
MGS has helped fund the conference through the main grant programme and our CEO Joanne Orr has contributed some thinking behind the planning.
I, along with two colleagues will be attending the two-day event on 14 and 15th September in Glasgow. The first afternoon involves a community visit, my choice is the Red Road Community Flat project which is ongoing, recording histories from residents of these iconic buildings, due for demolition by 2016.
Further details on the two-day event are at the Out There website, but there is also an opportunity for smaller Scottish museums to send a representative. There are five places available with (reasonable) travel costs. Please see the website for more information.
If you do go, please let me know.
