Mull of Kintyre – closer than you think!

When Victoria Hawkins, Standards Manager requested a co-pilot for her verification visit to Campbeltown Museum I jumped at the chance as its not often I get out to see our members and to be honest I also fancied the opportunity to see some nice countryside which as you can see I certainly did.

Campbeltown is a good five hours drive from Edinburgh which can seem a bit daunting but there is a huge amount to see and do on the way.  There are 12 MGS members in Argyll & Bute and on the way to our destination we were very sorry we didn’t have time to pop in and see Inverary Jail, Auchindrain and Kilmartin House Museum.  My only regret about the trip  was not taking my board to get some evening surfing done at Machrahanish beach and attempting to match Victoria’s Scrabble skills – humiliating defeat is not a good way to end your day.

So for anyone looking to plan a staycation this summer I highly recommend going west.  Thanks are due to the Craigard House for some excellent food and hospitality and to Bob Clark and Pat McCann for a very interesting insight to Campbeltown Museum which has officially the best looking doors in Scotland.

  1. My Gran and Grandpa lived outside Campbelltown in a small village called Carradale, I used to visit it virtually every weekend when I was growing up.

That area of Scotland has some really special memories for me.
